The Science Museum of Minnesota routinely considers loans of items from its collection to museums, educational institutions, and other approved organizations for research or exhibition in keeping with its mission. Loans help widen our audience and further knowledge relating to items in our care.
Preliminary inquiries for loans from the collections should be addressed to the curator of the relevant discipline well in advance to determine the availability of objects and appropriateness of the project. Loans for exhibitions require at least 6 months advance notice and an American Alliance of Museums General Facility Report to be considered.
Borrowing institutions must comply with the Conditions Governing Loans from The Science Museum of Minnesota, including, but not limited to, environmental, safety and security, shipping, handling, insurance, and display requirements.
Additional information can be found in the Outgoing Loans section of the Collections Management Policy.
If you have any questions about this process, feel free to email the Registrar, Charlie Iverson, at civerson@smm.org.
