Getting ready for your Vikings Voyage? Let's talk through what you can expect!
Materials:
Predict:
What rules or expectations do you think will be at the U.S. Bank Stadium?
Plan:
What resources do you think we can use to gain a better understanding of field trip rules?
Play:
Introduce the space that the students will be visiting by playing the “Tour of the Stadium Video” Video in the Resource Section.
Ask students to write down what they are most excited about when going to the field trip.
Share out as a class what students are most excited about.
Play “Miss Malarkey’s Field Trip.” At the end, have students identify different situations where the students in the video were and were not on their best behavior. Use a T-chart anchor chart to help with student brainstorming.
Use the “My First Field trip” Google Slides to provide an overview of the experience. There are times to ask questions and have discussions throughout the slides.
Facilitate discussions with your choice of strategies.
Draw similarities with your classroom expectations and rules and how they can be applied to new spaces.
Create a class agreement on expectations for your Vikings Voyage field trip!
Ponder:
When you are having a problem with a classmate sharing materials, what are some steps you could take to avoid an issue?
How can you make sure that you are where you are supposed to be at the correct time?
What ways can you think of that will help you stay as a group on the tour?
Extension:
Use the T. rex videos in the Resource Section to highlight some scenarios of what not to do on field trips.
Video 1 introduces the lobby of the Science Museum. Use this to facilitate a discussion about how to enter these spaces and stay as a group.
In Video 2, you’ll see the T. rex sneak behind an employee’s desk and knock things over. Use this to highlight where it is okay to be — and not to be.
In Video 3, you’ll see the T. rex in the exhibits. Use this to highlight how to treat the materials and exhibit spaces while on field trips.
