Personal Energy Use: Crank Smarter

Grades 3-5

Learners will practice conserving energy now, so they’ll be able to make smart energy choices for their home, city, state, and country when they’re adults. Play a game that looks at the effect of personal and collective energy choices, and expand ideas around energy use beyond turning a light switch on and off. This game encourages learners to think about how they can advocate for choices that will protect the Earth during their day-to-day lives.

Learning Goals

  1. Energy production and use is a giant global puzzle:

    1. We all have pieces to solve it.

    2. Each piece is important, even if the pieces are small.

    3. The puzzle is so big it will never be complete, but we can make it better.

  2. You can make choices about your electricity use that impact the Earth

  3. People in different cities and countries all have to work together to reduce climate change and protect the Earth.
