Field trip safety protocols and requirements

Your safety is our top priority. Find out how we’re keeping museum visitors safe with spacing, online ticketing, and other safety protocols.

Masks are required for all field trip students and educators age five and above.

If you or a student in your class has been sick, please do not come to the museum. The museum offers vouchers and other options in case of a no-show, as mentioned in the Pricing and Scheduling section.

Chaperone policy

The Science Museum requires at least one chaperone for every 10 students. A chaperone is an adult over 21. However, smaller subgroups mean a more meaningful—and safer—experience for students, so the museum admits up to two chaperones free for every 10 students.

Chaperones must stay with their students at all times and are responsible for the conduct of the students they are accompanying. Without the minimum number of one chaperone per 10 students, all teachers and chaperones will be charged for admission.

Please download the Chaperone Guide for more information and museum manners to review before your field trip.

Lunch during field trips

Lunch is not provided at the museum, so educators and students are encouraged to bring their own lunches. We do offer snacks for purchase at the Explore Store and at food vendors within and outside of the museum if a field trip visitor forgets their meal. The Explore Store is open whenever the museum is open.

To reserve space for lunch at the museum, please let the Contact Center know when you call to book your field trip.

Storage during field trips

Storage is not available at the museum, so please keep all personal belongings with you or on the bus.
