Headdress

The Akha women's headdress has two main parts. The base is a bamboo structure covered with indigo-colored cotton cloth. The base is embellished with alternating rows of Job's tears (seeds) and anodized aluminum convex discs. There is also a row of shirt buttons sewn on with magenta thread. There are also hanging chains of Job's tears. Along the edge five old silver coins dangle. Attached to the headdress are magenta colored chicken feathers (bottle brush style) and fur. A top piece of bamboo decorated with silver discs and woven bands of natural and magenta fibers.
