DRESS
Embroidered dress from Oaxaca, Mexico. Donated by Mary Wilson. Dress is white cotton plain weave industrial cloth - knee length and 3/4 length sleeves. The dress is decorated with intricate embroidered flower motifs in blue thread in five areas: 1. the bodice (front and back), 2. around the armpits (front and back), 3. along the outer arms, 4. a vertical strip down the front, and 5. the cuffs. The pattern for the embroidery was stamped on in black ink - this can be seen in several areas around the blue embroidery - especially at the strip down the front. Cotton lace finishes the cuff hems and the neckline hem. A narrow embroidered row with zig zag motifs connects the sections of embroidery under the armpits on the front and back.
