cloth

A partially woven replica of a Saint’s belt attached to a backstrap loom. This piece was woven by a woman from Tenejapa as a practice textile for replicating a Saint’s belt (A95:3:1 and A96:3:1) from San Andrés Larráinzar. The section of the textile that is complete has a white ground cloth decorated with red brocade with accents in black, blue, green, yellow, pink, and light purple thread. A few inches of white ground cloth have been woven at the warp beam end of the textile to even the pressure exerted on the thread by the weaver. The loose threads on either end of the woven section are wrapped around the beams on either end of the backstrap loom to hold the textile in place.
