cloth

An incomplete, warp-dominant, plain-weave textile woven from white, merino wool warp and weft threads. A surface-float/ back float brocade pattern is woven in red, black, and brown wool. The black and brown were naturally dyed, while the red threads were dyed synthetically. Beginning at the bottom and moving towards the working edge, this textile is brocaded with a row of the tsek (scorpion) design, followed by a row of puntax (points), and then the p'ejel luch (square design), and xokontok (side weave) designs. These designs were borrowed from a huipil from Chamula, as the weaver was learning Chamula style brocading while weaving this piece. However, these are the San Andrés Larráinzar names for each of the brocade designs. This textile is still attached to the backstrap loom it was woven on.
