Researchers from the museum recently studied something many families experience: listening to podcasts together during car rides. Working with the popular children's science podcast Brains On!, we wanted to understand how these audio programs can turn routine drive time into valuable family time.

Join us  for a process-oriented webinar about how this project was completed. During this virtual webinar, study researchers will answer questions like:

  • How do podcast features get families talking? How do elements of podcast design — like questions, sound effects, or interactive segments — naturally prompt conversations between parents and kids?

  • What do family learning conversations look like and sound like while listening to a podcast?

  • What makes cars special learning spaces for interaction? What about the unique environment of a vehicle — being together in a contained space with focused attention — creates opportunities for joint media engagement and family learning conversations?

The findings reveal how thoughtful media design can transform everyday moments into rich learning experiences. By understanding what makes families engage with educational content, researchers and podcast creators can develop better resources that promote science learning beyond the classroom.
