Behind the Name
Marie Skłodowska Curie (November 7, 1867–July 4, 1934), was a Polish-French physicist and chemist who researched the science and benefits of radioactivity for human health. Aside from being the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and being the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two different fields of science, Curie discovered two new elements—polonium and radium—and brought mobile X-ray machines to analyze WWII soldier’s injuries on the battlefield, greatly reducing human suffering. Just like our Members, she was multidimensional and worked hard to forge her own path.
