Mississippi River Gallery

The 5,000-square-foot Mississippi River Gallery uses interactive exhibits, objects from our collections, and large dioramas to explore the natural, cultural, and geological histories of the Mississippi River. The exhibit takes you on a winding path—like the river itself—so you never know what's coming around the next bend. Visitors test their skill as a river boat pilot in a computer simulation, and then climb aboard an authentic Mississippi River towboat. Exhibits present aspects of Native American cultures in Minnesota. The midpoint of the exhibit looks out over the river itself offering a sweeping panoramic view of the valley, bluffs and flood plain. Visitors can compare the Mississippi during the Ice Ages to its condition today.
